From May 30 to June 2 this year, the highly esteemed Nor-Shipping exhibition took place in Oslo, bringing together maritime experts from around the world to attend conferences, visit company stands and network with top decision-makers. The Switch participated this year with its shiny new one-ton Power Drive at a stand that was part of the Finland Pavilion.
Immediasea sets the scene for action
On Monday, May 29, the day before the actual exhibition started, Asbjørn Halsebakke, Managing Director of The Switch Norway, participated in Immediasea – The Shipping Debate Forum – to discuss the advantages of our new DC-Hub as part of the topic “From Waste to Wow!!!” The main focus of the panel discussion was to present how shipowners can access untapped onboard energy potential.
In addition to Asbjørn, Petter Andersen from DNV GL and Haraldur Bjornsson from Marorka presented solutions that their companies offer to pave the way for enhanced efficiency, sustainability and reduced operational costs.
“Why now?” asked Asbjørn of the press audience. Although The Switch Norway has been delivering energy-efficient solutions for the past decade, the time seems right now thanks to a perfect storm of pressures that the industry now faces from costs, compliance and consciousness.

Asbjørn also presented the same topic at the NCE Maritime CleanTech event in the Disruptive Sustainability Hall that was even visited by Haakon, the Crown Prince of Norway.

Power Drive on display
At the actual The Switch stand, visitors could see and touch the real Power Drive. The stand was busy most of the time with new faces and old friends of The Switch.
According to Mika Koli, Business Development Manager for Marine at The Switch: “We’re really pushing hard to make a difference in reducing emissions of vessels. This is becoming more of an issue for marine as the new stringent regulations are approaching quickly and consciousness is growing. Now people are starting to realize that by being a good global citizen can also lead to economic benefits. And our message has been warmly welcomed by the marine sector, as shipowners and shipyards look for ways to cut costs and emissions.”
“At Nor-Shipping this year, we were pleased to present our new Power Drive and a wider marine product range. We also planned for our stand to be located right next to Steerprop’s at the Finnish Pavilion so that we could showcase our latest integrated product: Steerprop’s CRP ECO propulsor with our vertical permanent magnet motor,” Mika continues.
“This solution combines proven technology with the highest possible efficiency. In fact, our PM technology is based on the same frame that is now in serial production for the world’s biggest turbine, whereas Steerprop’s propulsors meet the highest ice classifications,” he says.
