Dear friends,
We have recently closed our books for the fiscal year of 2021. Despite COVID-19 impact on the global economy and our operations, we managed to reach most of our targets. I am especially proud of our on-time delivery performance in spite of certain material shortages and logistics constraints. We also managed to grow revenue thanks to good achievements – especially in the Marine machine business, where both our volumes and customer base expanded.

‘Permanent magnet’ makes propulsion technology different
The April issue of China Ship Survey magazine published a five-page article about permanent magnet technology used in the propulsion application.
LNG and beyond: box ships’ path to decarbonization
On April 13, Jussi Puranen was one of the panelists at Riviera’s Container Ship Tech & Ops Webinar Week. Jussi discussed the potential for fuel savings in container vessels by using permanent magnet shaft generators as one of the ways to meet decarbonization targets.
Turbomachinery webinar attracts interest in solid-rotor technology
The Turbo team of Markus Silventoinen, Giulio Martorelli and Mikko Lönnberg presented how solid-rotor technology extends the capabilities of standard induction electric machines. Turbomachinery International hosted the webinar.
How hybrid systems offer propulsion optimization
Asbjørn Halsebakke talks with Motorship’s Wendy Laursen about how hybridization does not in itself change propulsion choices, but it does offer opportunities for design optimization.
LUT to award Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen as one of its honorary doctorates
LUT will award 16 new honorary doctorates this spring. Jukka-Pekka Mäkinen, former President and CEO of Yaskawa Environmental Energy / The Switch, will be one of the Honorary Doctors of Technology.
New PM shaft generator provides higher power output for marine needs
Power electronics and semiconductors are a key element to having the flexibility to use different energy sources, different energy storages and different energy loads – and you can get all of this with a converter system.
New concepts for powering electric vessels
In the marine industry, the future looks highly interesting, with major challenges to unravel. The energy mix on board is likely to be a fascinating mosaic. Our vessels have to be ready, and flexibility will be key.
Solving marine DC distribution, selectivity, redundancy and safety issues
The marine industry is evolving rapidly to meet 2023 IMO-mandated emissions deadlines – and the ones to follow. To accomplish this, long-established methods and equipment are being reevaluated, upgraded or replaced.
New test center verifies large marine electrical drives
Marine engineers, investors and builders are in a tight spot these days. There’s the pinch of approaching regulation deadlines and the stress of using new technology rather than familiar, well-tried equipment. We understand. Change is costly and stressful.
Meet us at ASME Turbo and Electric & Hybrid Marine
If you want to meet with us personally, there is a great chance to do this in the Netherlands this June.
On June 13–17, Yaskawa Environmental Energy / The Switch will participate at ASME Turbo Expo 2022 in Rotterdam.
On June 21–23, meet us at Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo to be held in Amsterdam.
