Vantaa, Finland, March 24, 2015 – The Switch, a supplier of megawatt-class permanent magnet (PM) generator and full-power converter packages for wind power and other renewable energy applications, received another order to deliver two PM shaft generators to WE Tech Solutions of Finland.
At the end of February 2015, WE Tech Solutions placed another order for two PMM 1000 M shaft generators from The Switch with the option for an additional two to be used in future WE Tech Solutions projects. WE Tech Solutions utilizes the PM machine both as generator and motor in their direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution. The solutions will be delivered by WE Tech to Besiktas Shipyard in Turkey for installation in two 15100 DWT asphalt carrier new buildings recently ordered by Canadian ship owner Transport Desgagnés.
“The primary driver for Besiktas Shipyard to select our direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution was the high energy efficiency that this solution provides,” says Mårten Storbacka, Managing Director of WE Tech Solutions. “Specifically for this type of vessel, which is an asphalt carrier/product tanker, the ability to switch to the Take Me Home mode provides Auxiliary Propulsion Drive (APD) as per requirement in the same package. Our solution provides considerable fuel saving and service cost saving achieved from the stopped auxiliary generators in sailing mode.”
Another reason for WE Tech Solutions to choose The Switch PM shaft generator is that PM-based technology has been proven in marine applications to be a game changer when it comes to providing greater operational efficiency over the entire speed range and considerably slashing fuel consumption. Moreover, this modern technology allows vessels to easily comply with the increasingly stringent environmental and safety requirements in the marine industry.
In 2014, WE Tech Solutions placed several orders with The Switch for PM shaft generators, which are used as components in their direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solutions. These solutions will be delivered by WE Tech Solutions to Tianjin Xingang shipyard for a series of 4 new building vessels owned by Wallenius Lines of Sweden, to AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding for a series of 4 new building vessels owned by Terntank Rederi AS of Denmark, and to Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding for a series of 3 new building vessels owned by Torvald Klaveness of Norway.
