The Switch to acquire Wärtsilä Drives’ products, R&D and manufacturing
Finland, September 23, 2016 – The Switch announced its acquisition of Wärtsilä’s marine drives business that encompasses specialized megawatt-class power drives targeting marine applications. The Yaskawa-backed investment gives The Switch a stronger foothold in its growing marine business area. Together, The Switch and the Norway-based marine drives business aim to benefit from a number of inherent added-value synergies, including a stronger machine and drive package offering, a broader product range and a wider market access.

10 years of advancing permanent performance
Recently, The Switch participated for the second time at WindEnergy Hamburg 2016 – the world’s leading trade fair for onshore and offshore wind power. Four successful days at the fair, from September 27–30, brought together 1,400 exhibitors from 34 different countries and 35,000 visitors from all parts of the world. However, The Switch stand was a celebration of the company’s 10 years of advances in permanent performance.

First direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution sails smoothly
Finland, September 6, 2016 – WE Tech Solution and The Switch, a technology specialist of permanent magnet machines for advanced marine drive trains, announce the operational success at sea of their first direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution. Terntank’s goal when building this vessel has been to use a completely new standard in environmentally friendly technology that enables the shipowner to cut emissions to a new level. Its second vessel will set sail soon.

New PM shaft generator order for Stenersen’s tankers
Finland, September 2, 2016 – WE Tech has received an order to deliver its direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution to a series of two 17500 DWT IMO class II chemical tankers. The order also includes the option for two more. The Switch will deliver the PM shaft generators to be used in the solutions provided by WE Tech. The tankers will be built for Bergen-based Norwegian shipowner Rederiet Stenersen AS.

The Switch direct-drive, high-speed turbo technology becomes industry standard
Finland, June 13, 2016 – Finland-based Runtech Systems has placed its largest multi-million-euro order for high-speed turbo motors from The Switch for use in its turbo vacuum blower systems for paper machines. Using direct-drive technology developed jointly by both companies since the early 2000s, these turbos have now become widely accepted in the paper industry thanks to their superior advantages. Creating synergy with Yaskawa, VIPA, Profichip and partners
The Switch attended the SPS IPC Drives Italia exhibition in Parma, Italy from May 24 to 26 as part of the Yaskawa stand. This exhibition is now being held annually as an offshoot of the original German exhibition, the leading event for industrial automation suppliers and producers, which has been held for over the past 20 years. The popularity of SPS Italia has been growing steadily over the years since it started with more visitors and exhibitors each year.
